Michael Glidden Selected as Town of Simsbury’s Director of Planning and Community Development

At a meeting on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 the Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to make a conditional offer of employment to Michael Glidden to serve as the Town of Simsbury’s next Director of Planning and Community Development. “We are delighted to appoint Mike as our next Director of Planning and Community Development,” said Town Manager Maria Capriola. “His years of municipal planning and land use experience, high level of professionalism and strong knowledge of our community made him stand out in a competitive pool of applicants.”

Glidden was hired by the Town of Simsbury as code enforcement officer in November 2013, and was promoted to assistant town planner in August 2015.  During his tenure, he has provided staff support to the Zoning Commission, Planning Commission, Conservation Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Design Review Board, Historic District Commission, and Open Space Committee.  He has served as the Town’s flood plain administrator, conservation officer, historic preservation officer, and blight prevention officer. Prior to joining the Town of Simsbury, Glidden served the Town of Waterford as a zoning official, and the Town of West Hartford as assistant zoning enforcement officer.  “Mike is the ideal candidate to lead the Town’s Planning and Community Development Department,” said First Selectman Eric Wellman. “He has a broad range of expertise and has consistently demonstrated a customer service-oriented approach to working with our various boards, commissions and the public.”

Glidden assumed the role of Director of Planning and Community Development effective September 10, 2018. A reception for Mike will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 4:30-5:15pm in the Main Meeting Room of the Simsbury Town Hall.  All are welcome to attend.
