Simsbury COVID Data - Week Ending September 25, 2021

Thank you to our Simsbury community for continuing to work together to help keep everyone as safe as possible during the pandemic. We are monitoring the state’s municipal COVID alert system and are currently at “orange” status for the sixth consecutive week; we are currently at 13.2 cases per 100,000 people, an increase from 10.4 for the week prior. For the week ending September 25th, Simsbury had 30 new cases, the week prior 17 new cases, and for the most recent 2-week period, 47 new cases.  Our positivity rate for the week ending September 25th was 3.3%, up from 3% the week prior.

The Farmington Valley Health District (FVHD) has reported that nearly 28% of all cases within the district were in school aged children (4-18 years old). While overall, school related quarantines were down from the week prior, FVHD is “seeing more school related quarantines in the elementary schools, driven by the fact that children under the age of 12 are not yet eligible for vaccine.”

Since our mask order was issued, we have not reached red alert status, the highest level of risk for the DPH municipal alert system.  Comparatively, seven of the other nine towns in our district have reached red alert at some point during the same time period.  However, five of the ten FVHD towns had two week average rates below 10/100,000 (yellow or grey status).

The ten towns comprising FVHD constitute substantial risk (FVHD is at 63.7 cases per 100,000) for levels of community transmission based on CDC definitions, while the state of Connecticut is now at substantial and Hartford County remains at “high” risk. Currently, Connecticut and California are the only states at substantial risk or lower. In areas with substantial transmission or higher, the CDC recommends that everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings to help prevent spread of the Delta variant and to protect others.

Please note we are continuing to receive reports that some of our businesses have received information that our mask order has been rescinded.  Please be aware that the Town has not rescinded the order, nor did we send town officials to businesses relaying this message.  Any changes to or rescission of the order will clearly be available on our Town’s website, www.simsbury-ct.gov.
