Voluntary Water Conservation

Due to below average precipitation and high temperatures, Simsbury residents are reminded to be mindful of their water consumption and take steps to reduce water usage.  As a reminder, Aquarion’s twice-weekly irrigation schedule applies to Simsbury from April 1 through October 31.

Per Governor Lamont’s stage 2 drought declaration on July 14, residents are encouraged to take steps to aid in minimizing future drought impacts, such as:

  • Adjust your mower to a higher setting. A taller lawn provides shade to the roots and helps retain soil moisture, so your lawn requires less water.
  • Turn off the water while lathering up, shaving, or brushing your teeth.
  • Minimize baths and the amount of water you use for each. Trim one minute off the length of your showers (you’ll save on your water-heating bills, too).
  • Wash only full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine.
  • Hand wash dishes in a pan or the sink, not under continuous running water.
