MINUTES

1. Call to Order

Lisa Heavner (Chair) called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. Sub-Committee members Sean Askham and Cheryl Cook were present. Thomas Cooke, Director of Administrative Services, was also present.

Nobody spoke at public audience.

4. Review and possible action on candidate for Employee Benefits Coordinator position

Ms. Heavner asked Mr. Cooke to address the issue of appointment of Eric Gomes to the position of Employee Benefits Coordinator. Mr. Cooke stated that Mr. Gomes had been serving the Town as Human Resources Consultant during the period that Mr. Kimball was Interim Finance Director and that, during that time, the Human Resources function had been extremely busy with the consolidation under a single health care carrier. Ms. Cook asked whether Mr. Gomes had been working for others during this period and Mr. Cooke responded that in view of the volume of work Mr. Gomes had been providing all of his services to the Town. Mr. Cooke noted that Mr. Gomes had an extensive benefits insurance background and that he was ideally suited to help the Town address the issues likely to be faced under the Affordable Care Act.

Mr. Cooke also noted that, in the normal course, once a job description at this level has been created and a salary range approved, final appointments and salary negotiations are normally handled at the administrative level.

Ms. Cook made a motion to endorse Mr. Cooke’s recommendation to hire Mr. Gomes for the Employee Benefits Coordinator position. Mr. Askham seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

5. Adjourn

Mr. Askham made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ms. Cook seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 a.m.
