Personnel Sub-Committee – Special Meeting

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

5:45 PM – Simsbury Town Offices – Board of Education Conference Room

MINUTES

1.         Call to Order

The meeting was relocated to the Main Meeting Room.  Sub-Committee Chair Lisa Heavner and Committee Members Sean Askham and Cheryl Cook were present.  Thomas Cooke, Director of Administrative Services, was also present.  The meeting was called to order at 5:45 pm.

No member of the public spoke at public audience.

4.         Approval of Minutes

• September 22, 2014 Special Meeting

Ms. Cook made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 22, 2014 Special Meeting.  Mr. Askham seconded the motion.   The motion passed with Mr. Askham abstaining.

5.         Possible recommendation re: appointment of employment law counsel

Ms. Heavner reviewed the interview process.  Mr. Cooke stated that based on the interviews, comments received from the Personnel Sub-Committee and reference checks, Murtha Cullina was recommended for appointment as Employment Law Counsel for the balance of the Board of Selectmen’s term.  Discussion ensued concerning the qualifications of Murtha Cullina relative to the other firms interviewed.  Mr. Cooke described the possible fee arrangements that might be made for larger matters.

Ms. Cook made a motion to appoint Murtha Cullina as the Town’s employment law counsel through December, 2015.  Mr. Askham seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

6.         Adjourn

Mr. Askham made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Ms. Cook seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.  The meeting adjourned at 5:55 pm.
