POLICE COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING

MAY 12, 2014

 

 

1.         CALL TO ORDER

 

The Regular Meeting of the Police Commission was called to order at 7:01 P.M. in the Police Department Training Room of the Simsbury Town Offices.  Present were Chairman Brendan Walsh, Commissioner Michael Long, Commissioner Carl Eisenmann, Commissioner Edward Cosgrove, Commissioner James Fleming, Chief Peter Ingvertsen and Captain Nicholas Boulter.

 

2.         PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

3.         CORRESPONDENCE

 

Commissioner Long read the Summary of Letters received since the last Regular Meeting of the Commission on April 16, 2014. (Addendum 1)

 

4.         APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

Commissioner Cosgrove made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Fleming and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of the April 16, 2014 Regular Meeting.  (Addendum 2)

 

5.         PUBLIC AUDIENCE

 

None

 

6.         OLD BUSINESS

 

Town Attorney, Robert Decrescenzo provided the Commission with an update on the Town’s efforts to recover the overtime costs incurred after the March 2012 motor vehicle accident where three patrol officers were injured.   

 

7.         REPORTS

 

a.        Chairman’s Report

 

None

 

b.        Chief’s Report

 

Chief Ingvertsen provided the Commission with an update on the progress of the three newest officers in the department.  Two officers are still in field training and both are progressing well.  The third officer is finishing up at the Police Academy where she is currently ranked third in her class.

c.        Consolidated Monthly Report for March 2014 (Addendum 3)

 

The Chief reported to the Commission that in order to improve traffic safety on Simsbury roads the department will be continuing its efforts to focus traffic enforcement on targeted areas that are shown to have the highest number of accidents/violations.

 

8.         NEW BUSINESS

 

The Chief made a recommendation to the Commission that PFC Jamie Corcoran be promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  He then provided the Commission with a profile of PFC Corcoran’s background and accomplishments.

 

Commissioner Long made a motion, seconded by Chairman Walsh and passed unanimously to accept the Chief’s recommendation and approve the promotion of PFC Corcoran to the rank of Sergeant.  The Commission congratulated PFC Corcoran.

 

9.         AJOURNMENT

 

Commissioner Long made motion to adjourn at 7:35 P.M. Commissioner Cosgrove seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the motion passed.
