POLICE COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING

November 10, 2014

 

 

1.         CALL TO ORDER

 

The Regular Meeting of the Police Commission was called to order at 7:04 P.M. in the Police Department Training Room of the Simsbury Town Offices.  Present were Commissioner Michael Long, Commissioner Carl Eisenmann, Commissioner James Fleming, Chief Peter Ingvertsen and Captain Nicholas Boulter.

3.         CORRESPONDENCE

 

Commissioner Fleming read the Summary of Letters received since the last Regular Meeting of the Commission on October 15, 2014.  (Addendum 1)

 

4.         APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

Commissioner Fleming made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Long and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of the September 8, 2014 Regular Meeting.  (Addendum 2)

 

Commissioner Fleming made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Eisenmann and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of the October 15, 2014 Regular Meeting.  (Addendum 3)

 

5.         PUBLIC AUDIENCE

 

None

 

6.         OLD BUSINESS

 

Chief Ingvertsen provided the Commission with an update on the Town’s efforts to recover the overtime costs incurred after the March 2012 motor vehicle accident where three patrol officers were injured. 

 

An update on the progress of the pedestrian crossing safety project at Ethel Walker School was also provided by the Chief.

 

Captain Boulter reported on the progress of Project Lifesaver.  He noted that the first order has been placed and is expected in the next few weeks and all, but one officer has been trained

7.         REPORTS

 

 Chairman’s Report

 

On behalf of the Chairman Commissioner Long reported on the progress of the crosswalk on Hopmeadow Street at Ensign-Bickford Aerospace.  

 

Chief’s Report

 

The Chief report that both he and the Captain will honored by the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence for the Department’s leading role against domestic violence. The honors will be presented at the First 100 Plus Annual Breakfast & Awards Ceremony on November 14, 2014.  

 

Captain Boulter reported that the Department recently received two Connecticut Police Challenge awards: First Overall for Occupant Safety and Second Overall for Traffic Safety.  He noted that the Police Challenge submission requires a lot of work and the end result is an all-inclusive report which includes a great amount of complied Department information.

8.         NEW BUSINESS

 

Chief Ingvertsen introduced candidate for probationary patrol officer, Anthony Capezzali to the Commission and then presented a brief biography of the candidate.  Anthony has been a Certified Patrol Officer for the City of Ansonia for over eight years. 

 

Commissioner Fleming made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Eisenmann and passed unanimously to approve the appointment of Anthony Capezzeli as a probationary patrol officer.  Anthony thanked the Commission and stated that he is looking forward to working in a police department that has a Community Policing mission and hopes to make Simsbury his home.

 

9.         AJOURNMENT

 

Commissioner Eisenmann made motion to adjourn at 7:35 P.M. Commissioner Fleming seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the motion passed.
