POLICE COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING

DECEMBER 8, 2014

 

1.         CALL TO ORDER

 

The Regular Meeting of the Police Commission was called to order at 7:02 P.M. in the Police Department Training Room of the Simsbury Town Offices.  Present were Chairman Brendan Walsh, Commissioner Michael Long, Commissioner Carl Eisenmann, Commissioner Edward Cosgrove, Chief Peter Ingvertsen and Captain Nicholas Boulter.  Commissioner James Fleming was not present.

3.         CORRESPONDENCE

 

Commissioner Long read the Summary of Letters received since the last Regular Meeting of the Commission on November 10, 2014. (Addendum 1)

 

 

4.         APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

Commissioner Long made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Eisenmann and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of the November 10, 2014 Regular Meeting with an addition which noted that Commissioner Long served as the Commission’s Chairman pro se in Chairman Walsh’s absence.  (Addendum 2)

 

5.         PUBLIC AUDIENCE

 

none

 

6.         OLD BUSINESS

 

An overview of the department’s new officer’s progress was provided to the Commission.  Officer Brittell will graduate from the Police Academy on January 18th. Officer Camacho’s field training is complete and she has been released to patrol independently. The department’s most recent hire, Officer Capezzali is currently in field training and is doing very well.  PFC Everest has retired and another retirement is expected in January.  The department is actively working to fill the vacated position(s). 

 

The Chief reported that he will attend a pre-trail hearing in January for the lawsuit to recover the funds that the department lost as a result of overtime caused by the March 2012 MVA where three officers were injured.

 

Commissioner Long commented that he felt that the Chief had done a very good job with the recent press conference which provided the public with an update on the Town’s recent homicide.

7.         REPORTS

 

 Chairman’s Report

 

Chairman Walsh reported that the project to improve the safety of pedestrians crossing Hopmeadow Street in the vicinity of Ensign-Bickford Aerospace and Defense is continuing slowly to move forward.

The Commission had no comments.

 

8.         NEW BUSINESS

 

The Commission reviewed and made adjustments to the proposed 2015 meeting schedule. (Addendum 4)

 

Commissioner Long made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Cosgrove and passed unanimously to approve the 2015 meeting schedule as discussed.

 

Chief Ingvertsen provided the Commission with an update on the recent untimely death of a man in the Tariffville section of Simsbury.

 

A brief educational presentation was provided to the Commission by Public Safety Dispatcher Mindie Post on the responsibilities of a Dispatcher in an EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) situation.  The Commission asked Dispatcher Post some questions about her position and thanked her for her informative presentation.

 

9.         AJOURNMENT

 

Commissioner Cosgrove made motion to adjourn at 7:42 P.M. Commissioner Long seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the motion passed.
