POLICE COMMISSION 
SPECIAL MEETING
OCTOBER 15, 2013

1. CALL TO ORDER

The Special Meeting of the Police Commission was called to order at 7:00 P.M. in the Police Department Training Room of the Simsbury Town Offices.  Present were Chairman Brendan Walsh, Commissioner Harvey Goodfriend, Commissioner Michael Long, Commissioner Edward Cosgrove, Chief Peter Ingvertsen and Captain Nicholas Boulter.  Commissioner Eisenmann was not in attendance.

None

4. CORRESPONDENCE

Commissioner Long made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Goodfriend and passed unanimously to read the current Correspondence at the next meeting of the Police Commission. (Addendum 1)

5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Goodfriend made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Long and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of the September 9, 2013 Regular Meeting.  (Addendum 2)

6. PUBLIC AUDIENCE

PFC Gary Gray was in attendance as a member of the public.

7. REPORTS

a. Chairman’s Report

None

b. Chief’s Report

The Chief reported the following:

Laurel Mandel, the department’s newest probationary police officer entered the Police Academy on October 4th.   She has reported that she is enjoying the Academy and that she found the time that she spent in the Department prior to the academy very beneficial.

Jameson Ball will begin in the Department as a probationary police officer on Monday, October 21st and will be sworn-in the same day at 3:00 PM. 

PFC John Mimnaugh will be retiring on November 30, 2013.  His position as Community Services Officer will temporarily be filled by PFC Lauren Devin.  The Department has begun the process to fill the vacancy that will be created by PFC Mimnaugh’s retirement.

The last of the three officers that were injured in the March 2012 motor vehicle accident has returned to full duty and is back in patrol.

The Department will be considering two projects during the upcoming budget preparation process:  a remote residential lockbox entry system and “Project Lifesaver,” a bracelet program used to help locate certain at risk individuals.

c. Consolidated Monthly Report for August 2013

The Commission had no comments.

8. AJOURNMENT

Commissioner Long made motion to adjourn at 7:15 P.M. Commissioner Cosgrove seconded the motion.  All were in favor and the motion passed.
