SIMSBURY YOUTH SERVICE ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
December 12, 2022

 

On December 12, 2022, the Simsbury Youth Services Advisory Board met in person at the Simsbury High School. 

Present: Erika Cleveland (SSS), Tom Tyburski (SCP&R), Mary Richardson (SPL), Trevor Brittell (SPD), Todd Kushman (SPD), and Jovin Girard (SHS).

The meeting was called to order at 2:28 PM.  

No public comments were submitted for the meeting.

Erika reviewed programs that were co-facilitated with Simsbury Public Library this quarter. Three programs have been held thus far at Simsbury Public Library. Erika communicated upcoming programs for youth, parents, and staff in addition to programs that are under development.

The board confirmed the theme for the year is “communication is key.” The board suggested purchasing lanyards, stickers, pens, pins, and/or magnets with the theme.

A conversation was had regarding vaping within the schools as vaping continues to be a concern. The board discussed ways to help deter vaping among students. 

Student member was unable to attend. There is a current opening for a student member.  The Board will work on identifying and appointing a new student member. 

Motion to approve minutes from October’s meeting. A motion was approved by Officer Brittell. The motion was seconded by Officer Kushman. All present and voting approved, motion passes.

A discussion was had about the concerns around half days and students who tend to converge on the center of town and at the PAC. Board discussed ways to provide positive youth programming opportunities on half days.

All Department Updates were provided.  Board discussed any identified concerns and possible ways to address them.  

Having no further business to come before the Board, a motion was made to adjourn by Tom Tyburski.  The motion was seconded by Officer Brittell.  All present and voting in favor, motion passes.  The meeting was adjourned at 3:18 PM.
