SIMSBURY YOUTH SERVICE ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
April 17, 2023
On April 17, 2023, the Simsbury Youth Services Advisory Board met in person at the Simsbury High School.
Present: Erika Cleveland (SSS), Tom Tyburski (SCP&R), Mary Richardson (SPL), and Trevor Brittell (SPD).
The meeting was called to order at 2:21 PM.
No public comments were made.
Erika reviewed programs that were co-facilitated with Simsbury Public Library this quarter. Three programs have been held at Simsbury Public Library and one event was co-facilitated with Parks and Rec. Additionally, Social Services facilitated three events. Erika communicated upcoming programs for youth and parents in addition to programs that are under development.
Minutes from December were reviewed with no noted changes.
A conversation was had regarding YSB student opening. The board discussed avenues pursued to recruit a student member in addition to possible candidates the board members can refer. Erika explained the application details.
The board explained youth issues have slowed down. The board have seen a decrease in behaviors and vandalism identified in the previous meeting minutes. No student issues to report overall.
All Department updates were provided. No issues or concerns from SHS Resource Officer. Each department listed upcoming events open to the community. Parks and Rec co-sponsored an Easter Egg hunt with Social Services, which was a huge hit with approximately 900 community members attending. Parks and Rec received triple the amount of participants than previous year. The Public library is offering a field trip to the Simsbury Free Library with the Teen Advisory group. During exam week, the library will offer therapy dogs for students to relieve anxiety. Teen Summer reading kick-off date is scheduled for June 20th.
Having no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 2:49 PM.
