Subject: Minutes Simsbury Recycling Meeting Feb.26, 2015

Call to Order: Mary Turner, Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:37 PM.

Present: David Chase, Lori Fernand, Rosemary Fusco, Carol Miller, Alexandra Rice and Mary Turner.

Approval of Minutes:Nov. 20, 2014
Rosemary made a motion to approve the minutes with a title correction from Agenda to Minutes, and Carol seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Correspondence and Recycling News:
Rosemary presented an article from the Hartford Courant referring to the recycling in the West Hartford area. The article indicated the loss of revenue and being a "loser" financially. Copies of the article will be handed out at the next meeting.

Reports:
Dave will look into an interview with SCTV for an informational discussion regarding recycling in Simsbury.

A review of the 2013-2014 Recycling Proposals & Results was seen as a positive year.

The Household Circular is near completion with a bit of revision. Added will be Textile recycling at the transfer station. The bar graph will also be changed.

Swap Shop Calendar year 2014 was a great success. Mary presented a report of account balance $317.95/rebate of $9,543. Thanks to Mary & Thom.

Styrofoam Ban was discussed pertaining to the trays, etc. being used in the schools in town. Some cafeterias are using trays that can be washed but not all schools have a dishwasher. The introduction of these washable trays in the other school/schools would be quite costly.

Discussion was had regarding a compost event. The date of April 18th, 2015 was selected. Information and media ads were also discussed. This to be held at the Town Farm, as last year.

Trash Museum visit might be a very fun trip for one of the elementary grades, perhaps in the spring.

Old Business:
Textile Recycling at the transfer station needs to be defined as to the 2 bins that are currently there. One for good useable clothing and the other for clothing (textiles) that are not useable. The latter will be shredded.

No new business.

Adjournment:
At 8:35 PM, Carol made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Dave. The motion carried.

Respectfully submitted by
Rosemary Fusco
