Recycling Committee Regular Meeting November 20, 2014

SIMSBURY RECYCLING COMMITTEE - 'SUBJECT TO APPROVAL"
TOWN HALL OFFICES -- ROOM 103
MINUTES for Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 6:30 PM

Call to order: Mary Turner, Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM.

Present: Lori Fernand, Rosemary Fusco, Alexandra Rice, Claudia Szerakowski and Mary Turner. Bill Hantzos was a guest.

Approval of Minutes for Oct.23,2014:
Claudia made a motion to approve the minutes and Alexandra seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Correspondence and Recycling News:A spirited discussion was held on the future of recycling and composting. The web sites that are available, the towns that are currently recycling and composting food items. Also, the number of grocery stores and restaurants that have contracted for waste foods to be collected. New start ups have been formed to do all of the above.

Reports:
Household Circular:
Lori sent to all an updated copy for discussion. The graph on the reverse side will be revised a bit. Mailing possibly in January 2015.

Composting Event:
Bill Hantzos gave an update on the overall response from the people who attended on Nov. 15th at Simsbury Community Farm. It was positive and well received. Also a future event, as well as farmers market events are a possibility. These to be discussed in the spring.

Old Business:
Placing of bins at the transfer station for textile recycling. The need for more publicity to inform residents of the location of the bin/bins.

New Business:
No new business.

Adjournment:
At 7:50PM, Carol made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Claudia. The motion carried.
