Regular Meeting - Thursday, August 3, 2023 – 2:30 P.M.

Eno Memorial Hall – Old Court Room IN PERSON

Diana Yeisley, Interim Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:35.

PRESENT: Jan Beatty, Cheryl Cook, Ed LaMontagne, Libby Easton May, Mike Jennings, Diana Yeisley

EXCUSED: Kathleen Marschall

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was recited.

PUBLIC AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: None received.

ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: None – first meeting

NEW BUSINESS

  • Nomination of Subcommittee Chair: Ms. Cook nominated Mr. LaMontagne and Ms. Yeisley seconded.  Mr. LaMontagne nominated Ms. Beatty and Mr. Jennings seconded.  Discussion ensued.  Ms. Cook then amended her nominating motion to nominate Ms. Beatty as Chair and Mr. LaMontagne as Secretary/Clerk. Ms. Yeisley seconded the amended motion. A vote was taken and unanimously passed to install Ms. Beatty as Chair and Mr. LaMontagne as Clerk.
  • Nomination of Subcommittee Secretary: See above.
  • Adoption of Subcommittee Meeting Calendar: The Subcommittee voted unanimously to accept the posted meeting schedule of 1st Thursday of every month at 2:30 Eno Memorial Hall. (The agenda had a typo indicating 1st Tuesday.)
  • Summary of July 11 webinar: Ms. Beatty and Ms. Easton May attended the AARP Zoom webinar “Interpreting Age-Friendly Data” on July 11 and Ms. Beatty offered a summary of the speakers’ comments.

  • Planning and Process for Age-Friendly Designation
    • Focus Groups
      • Discussion was held regarding establishing of focus groups for January of 2024.

It was agreed that we will need a skillful facilitator. Ms. Yeisley will reach out to Laura Haynes at the UCONN Center for Aging.

It was discussed that we should have focus groups for each selected domain and include our community partners that would be relevant to those domains.

It was noted that Glastonbury had three focus groups.

  • Senior Voices
    • How we would go about conducting senior voices was discussed. Sessions would be recorded. It was agreed that they could be anonymous if they chose to. Still to be discussed was where and when this would occur.
  • Stakeholders/Community Partners
    • An updated list of community partners was developed.
    • Members of the sub-committee were assigned to contact the community partners.
    • Ms. Beatty will develop a draft letter.
  • Timelines
    • September 2024: Emails will be sent to the community partners
    • January 2024: Focus Groups will be conducted
  • Ms. Beatty adjourned the meeting at 3: 56 pm.
