Simsbury to Participate in CRCOG “Voice Over Internet Protocol” Demonstration Project

The Town of Simsbury is in the final stages of connecting to the “Nutmeg Network” – a statewide fiber-optic network linking Simsbury’s towns and cities to the state and to one another.  As part of the implementation of the Nutmeg Network, the MORE Commission asked for and received state funding for Nutmeg Network demonstration projects – projects designed to demonstrate the value of the Nutmeg Network and to serve as collaborational models for additional uses.  I am pleased to report that the Town of Simsbury has been selected to participate in the “Voice Over Internet Protocol” or “VOIP” project.  VOIP offers the potential for less costly and better integrated telephone systems in the Town.  We look forward to working with CRCOG and the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology on this project.

Simsbury 1820 House, Main Street Partnership Co-Sponsor Travelogue Poster Competition

The Simsbury 1820 House and the Simsbury Main Street Partnership are sponsoring a competition challenging Farmington Valley artists to create a Travelogue Poster capturing the essence of Simsbury.  Winning posters will be reproduced and used to promote Simsbury as a travel destination.  Finalists will have their work displayed in an exhibit at The Simsbury 1820 House running from November 7 - December 13, and visitors will vote for their favorites, so be sure to stop by the 1820 House to look at the submissions.  The top three finalists will be awarded cash prizes in the amount of $500, $300, and $200.  The works will be designed to represent the artist's idea of "heritage, charm & adventure" associated with Simsbury's branding campaign.  I would like to thank the Simsbury 1820 House and Simsbury Main Street Partnership for their part in helping to promote Simsbury as a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

Simsbury American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Sponsor Tomorrow’s Veterans Day Program; Tariffville Third and Fourth Graders Offer Their Own Observance!

Our annual Veterans Day Program will take place tomorrow at Eno Memorial Hall beginning at 10:45 am.  This is always a moving ceremony and provides a fitting opportunity for us to remember those who have given so much to protect the liberties we enjoy.  Refreshments, provided by the Simsbury VFW Ladies Auxiliary, will follow the program.  I would like to thank the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for doing so much to help us recognize our veterans.

Tariffville School’s third and fourth graders are also taking the opportunity to honor our veterans with their own Veterans Day Assembly!  It will take place in the Tariffville School auditorium at 1:15 pm.  In addition to songs from the kids, they will have guest speakers representing different branches of the military.  If you have a chance, swing by the school and witness this wonderful event!
