HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION

JUNE 2, 2016

MINUTES FROM REGULAR MEETING

 

 

ROLL CALL

 

Diane Mead, Chairperson, opened the Regular Meeting of the Historic District Commission at 7:50 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room at the Town Offices.  Other members in attendance were Betty Woollacott and Marguerite Rodney.  Also present were Michael Glidden, Assistant Town Planner; Janis Prifti, Commission Clerk; and other interested parties.

 

 

APPOINTMENT OF ALTERNATES

 

A quorum was not present and no alternates were appointed.

At 7:58 p.m., Commissioner Patricia Hyyppa joined the meeting.

 

 

APPLICATIONS

 

Application #16-01 of Patricia Hyyppa, Owner, for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the replacement of the existing shingles with Timberline architectural shingles for the residence on the property located at 42 East Weatogue Street (Assessor’s Map H14, Block 109, Lot 020). Zone R-40. (received 04/13/2016; decision must be rendered by 06/17/2016)

 

Staff noted that a decision needs to be made for Application #16-01 and a special meeting could be scheduled as a quorum was not present at this meeting.  The Commissioners discussed potential meeting dates and assuring a quorum is present.  Mr. Glidden believed Board Member Jonathan Laschever would be present at the Design Review Board meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on June 6th.  As Mr. Laschever is also a member of the Historic District Commission, Mr. Glidden will confirm his attendance at this Commission’s Special Meeting at 6:30 p.m. also on June 6th.

 

Commissioner Rodney made a motion to hold a Special Meeting for Application #16-01 on Monday, June 6, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.

 

Commissioner Woollacott seconded the motion, and it was passed unanimously.

 

 

At 7:58 p.m., Commissioner Patricia Hyyppa joined the meeting.

 

 

GENERAL COMMISSION BUSINESS

                  None.

 

 

V.        APPROVAL OF MINUTES of the January 7, 2016 regular meeting

 

Commissioner Rodney made a motion to approve the January 7, 2016, Minutes, as written.

 

Chairperson Mead seconded the motion, and it was passed unanimously.

 

Chairperson Mead asked about the status the Handbook update.  Mr. Glidden reviewed that an application was submitted in March to the State and he will follow up.  Chairperson Mead noted there was a house for sale in the District and work the owners would like to do in back of the house could be affected by Historic District Guidelines regarding visibility from the road and emphasized that the Handbook update is needed.

Commissioner Rodney made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.

 

Commissioner Woollacott seconded the motion, and it was passed unanimously.
