“Not Your Grandma’s Marijuana” – A Community Discussion on the
Legalization of Recreational Marijuana

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1, 2017 – Simsbury’s Community for Care is presenting a program called “Legal? Safe? Not your Grandma’s Marijuana. Let’s Talk” on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Simsbury Public Library’s Program Room.

The program is a community-based panel discussion on current perceptions and the legalization of recreational marijuana.  The panel will include a pediatrician, a family therapist, recovery and substance abuse counselors, law enforcement and a parent.  Questions will be taken from the audience and the panel will respond to questions submitted by local students.

Among the topics for discussion are:

  • How marijuana available today differs from what was available to previous generations
  • How marijuana affects the teenage brain
  • The relationship between marijuana use and the use of other “harder” drugs
  • Marijuana and Connecticut law, and
  • Issues involving the legalization of recreational marijuana and how to talk to your children about it.

The program is appropriate for middle school age and above, and residents are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.
