Simsbury Stands Against Hate Vigil Scheduled for Thursday, August 17 at 7:00 PM at Simsbury Town Hall

In the wake of the events in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend, State Representative John Hampton, Simsbury First Selectwoman Lisa Heavner and the Town of Simsbury Board of Selectmen are asking area residents to join them at Simsbury Town Hall for a vigil stressing the themes of unity, promoting peace and community, and demonstrating that communities like Simsbury are stronger when they pull together.

“We are our most powerful when we stand together to demand and protect human rights. Please join us as we commit to love in the face of hate and hope in the face of fear,” said Hampton.

The vigil begins at 7:00 p.m. outside Town Hall in front of the clock. Those attending are welcome to bring music, poems or words of inspiration to share.

“People of good will, regardless of party affiliation, race or creed, recognize that hate and bigotry have no place in this country,” said Heavner.  “The Board of Selectmen and the citizens of Simsbury demonstrate every day how much more we can accomplish when we respect each other and work together.”
