Simsbury's Senior Job Bank Opens

After an absence of five years the Seniors Job Bank (SJB) is now open in Simsbury and a “Grand Opening” was held recently.

“The Town of Simsbury is pleased that the Seniors Job Bank has resumed their job referral program in our community”, according to First Selectman Mary Glassman; “This program was missed by seniors who wanted to work and those who benefited from using the service”.

The Simsbury Board of Selectmen recently approved participation in the Senior Job Bank program. The job bank offers residents fifty and older the opportunity to find employment within the community.
"We are so fortunate to have a robust and diverse group of seniors in Simsbury who bring their talents and experiences to our community every day," said Glassman. "This is a great opportunity to connect seniors to other residents for everyone's benefit. We are excited to watch this program thrive. "

According to Seniors Job Bank President Bob Cave, “Many have helped with the reopening of the SJB and we have had outstanding initial success. Fortunately, we have many volunteers who assist with candidate interviews and can respond to the numerous requests by employers with open positions.”
Seniors Job Bank (SJB) will operate through Kathy Marschall, Senior Services Director and will be chaired by two volunteers Mary Margaret and Dennis Carrithers. SJB is a non-profit associated dedicated to helping seniors in the Greater Hartford area. "SJB is thrilled to once again be working in partnership with the Town of Simsbury," said Cave. "We are excited to have the opportunity to carry out our mission here." Also assisting in the program are Ed LaMontagne, chair of Simsbury’s Aging and Disability Commission and Selectman Shannon Knall, liaison to the Commission.

Information and application forms for those looking for “Help” at home or in business, or “Work” for those over age 50, can find it on the SJB home page on the Internet at: www.sjbct.org
Government data points out that more seniors are active in the workplace than ever before, because of improved health and opportunity to continue earning without tax penalties.  The challenge, then, is for a senior who has been removed from the job-seeking world to find a resource to help match their talents and energy with an interesting position.  The Seniors Job Bank can assist that person.
