Town of Simsbury Announces $40,000 Reward in Millan Case

SIMSBURY – The Town of Simsbury’s Police Department announced today that a reward of $40,000 is being offered by an anonymous donor for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Melissa Millan.  In addition, Chief Peter N. Ingvertsen disclosed that the Police Department has “some physical evidence from the crime scene that will help us to identify the person or persons responsible for her death.”  Ms. Millan was found deceased on Iron Horse Boulevard on November 20, 2014. The manner and cause of her death was determined to be a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

“Based on the initial observations and findings by Simsbury Police Officers, the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Squad was requested to assist with the identification, collection and preservation of any evidence of a crime,” said Ingvertsen. “Simsbury Police Investigators have been working with local, state and federal agencies to analyze evidence and follow all leads.”  He added that “this is an isolated act, not common at all to this community.  Simsbury is safe and we suggest that you take normal day to day precautions.”

Simsbury First Selectman Lisa Heavner recognized Chief Ingvertsen and the Town’s Police Department Detectives “who have been working on this investigation every day.  This investigation remains the top priority to the Town of Simsbury and its Police Department.  Our approach has been to use all of the resources at our disposal,” said Heavner, “and I want to recognize and thank the federal and state officers who have been assisting us since the very beginning of this case.”

In response to questions, Chief Ingvertsen stated that while the Police Department is still working on a number of active leads, the reward was being offered to ensure that every possible legitimate lead was identified.  Heavner reiterated that “Simsbury is a safe community.  The case remains active and ongoing and as you heard from the Chief, we believe this is isolated incident.  We haven’t seen anything like this in the past and we haven’t seen anything like this since.”  Thoughts and prayers were offered to Ms. Millan’s family and friends.
