David Drive Traffic Calming 2021

What is Traffic Calming?

Traffic calming is the combination of different measures aimed at reducing the negative effects of motor vehicle usage while promoting a safer community.

David Drive

Over the past few years, residents on David Drive have voiced their concerns over the speed of traffic on their street. In response, the Town will be implementing traffic calming devices to aid in slowing the speed of vehicles on David Drive. In order to best address the concerns of the neighborhood and gather informative data, we will be carrying out this traffic calming project in phases. As the project progresses, devices will be substituted in order to gauge the effectiveness of each calming strategy. The goal is to increase traffic safety while also analyzing which calming measures are most effective. This, in turn, will help determine the best course of action for a future long-term solution on David Drive. Below is a brief description of each phase along with a link to more detailed road plans.

Phases

Phase 1: A curb extension at the intersection of David and Blue Ridge Drive. Traffic counting devices will also be installed.

Phase 2: A roundabout will be placed at the intersection of David Drive and Sunset Hill Road.

Phase 3: Road narrowing measures, along with traffic islands, will be installed along the length of the street.
