SIMSBURY RECYCLING COMMITTEE

MINUTES (Zoom Meeting)

April 22, 2021

Mary Turner, Chair called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Present: Sue Ray, Joe Daly, Linda Johnson, Mary Turner, Ray Harris.

Minutes from March 25, 2021 were moved by Sue Ray and Seconded by Joe Daly.The motion carried unanimously.

Swap Shop Update:Sue Ray announced the Simsbury Lions Club will help with managing the Swap Shop this season.More information regarding procedures will be sent to Sue.The schedule will also be sent to membership.Need volunteers for June and July.

Compost Program Update:Mary approached Neil Sullivan requesting school cafeteria staff participate in a compost program.The idea was not supported at this time.

Mary approached Bryan DeVoe, owner of Fitzgerald who immediately agreed to participate.The logistics are being worked on and should be up and running soon.There was discussion of purchasing compost containers but at this time more information is needed.

Sustainability CT Report:Joe Daly spoke regarding discussions with Virginia Wolton, Mansfield School Compost Program. He offered to speak with her in regards to additional info he would share with Committee. He discussed that grants are available.He is willing to speak with Tom Roy to further educate Town Manager in areas that could be beneficial to Town.He stressed that the Town needs to invest in volume as a cost saving measure.Susan Ray mentioned the town-wide FoodWaste Collection and need for Transfer Station.It cannot be located at the Landfill due to lack of control of a compost container.
