Regular Meeting – Thursday, September 7, 2023 – 2:30 P.M.

Jan Beatty, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:32 p.m.

PRESENT: Jan Beatty, Cheryl Cook, Libby Easton May, Mike Jennings, Ed LaMontagne

EXCUSED: Diana Yeisley, Kathleen Marschall

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Recited

PUBLIC AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: None received

ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: The minutes of the August 3rd meeting were reviewed. There being no changes, Ed LaMontagne moved to accept, Cheryl Cook seconded, and the minutes were unanimously approved without correction.

OLD BUSINESS:

Focus Groups: Update on UCONN Center for Aging and facilitator

This item was tabled due to Ms. Yeisley not being present at the meeting.

Senior Voices:

Discussion was held regarding the process for doing interviews with seniors.

It was recommended that seniors be interviewed at the Tuesday & Wednesday lunch at ENO. Other potential opportunities were discussed including asking the stakeholders for suggestions.

Stakeholders/Community Partners:

Ms. Beatty shared a draft letter that would be distributed to stakeholders. The letter was reviewed and discussed and some changes were recommended. Ms. Beatty will revise the letter and forward it to subcommittee members.

The letter will be distributed to stakeholders by the end of September. It was recommended that the stakeholder be contacted approximately two weeks after the letter is sent out to follow up.

The list of community partners was reviewed and subcommittee members were assigned.

NEW BUSINESS

AARP Webinar Schedule:

The following schedule of webinars (zoom meetings open to general public) over the next three months was offered:

September 12th – Entrepreneurship – Job Readiness for Older Workers    https://events.aarp.org/8dvRQG.

October 10th – Promoting a Positive Image of Aging   https://events.aarp.org/kKeg7O.

November 14th – Pedestrian Safety & Walk Audits   https://events.aarp.org/e8nMRL.

All zoom meetings will take place from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Establish timeline for Focus Groups, Senior Voices and Action Plans

The following timeline was discussed:

Contacting stakeholders – Fall 2023
Focus Group – Jan-March 2024
Senior Voices – Jan-March 2024
Action Plan – Summer 2024

No other business was conducted

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business Cheryl Cook made a motion to adjourn, Mike Jennings seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 3:22 p.m.

The next meeting of the Age Friendly Community Subcommittee will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in the Old Court Room at Eno Memorial Hall.
