Regular Meeting – Thursday, October 5, 2023 – 2:30 P.M.
Eno Memorial Hall – Old Court Room

Jan Beatty, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:35 p.m.

PRESENT: Jan Beatty, Cheryl Cook, Diana Yeisley, Kate Robbins

EXCUSED: Ed LaMontagne, Mike Jennings, Libby Easton May

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Recited

PUBLIC AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: None

ACTION ITEMS: 

1. The minutes of the September 7th meeting were reviewed. There was one change proposed. Ms. Cook moved to accept the minutes as amended; Ms. Yeisley seconded.  The minutes were unanimously approved with correction.

2. Ms. Cook moved to appoint Kate Robbins as a full member of the Age-Friendly Community Subcommittee. Ms. Yeisley seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS:

Focus Groups: Update on UCONN Center for Aging and facilitator:  Ms. Yeisley reported that she had a contact at the UConn Center for Aging and was initiating a conversation.

Senior Voices: Discussion was held regarding the process for doing interviews with seniors. The committee discussed the format of the questions to be asked and the various events and programs where committee members might initiate conversations with seniors.

Stakeholders/Community Partners: The list of responses from community partners was reviewed.  The committee received positive responses from nearly all of those partners who received the letter via email. The subcommittee members discussed follow-up calls to be made.  The format of further interviews with the community partners was also discussed.

NEW BUSINESS:

AARP Webinar Schedule:  The following schedule of webinars (Zoom meetings open to general public) over the next two months was offered:

October 10th – Promoting a Positive Image of Aging   https://events.aarp.org/kKeg7O.

November 14th – Pedestrian Safety & Walk Audits   https://events.aarp.org/e8nMRL.

All Zoom meetings will take place from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. 

The Chair discussed the content of the program she attended with speaker Bill Armbruster, AARP, at the CT Age Well Collaborative meeting. Data was provided on the increasing senior population in CT.  Advocacy for policy change was also discussed.

The timeline for Focus Groups, Senior Voices and Action Plans was reviewed and the subcommittee agreed to follow the proposed timeline from the September 7th meeting.

OTHER: No other business was conducted

ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business Ms. Yeisley made a motion to adjourn, Ms. Robbins seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 3:32 p.m.

The next meeting of the Age-Friendly Community Subcommittee will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in the Old Court Room at Eno Memorial Hall.
