Age Friendly Community Sub-Committee

Regular Meeting - Thursday, November 2, 2023 – 2:30 P.M.

Jan Beatty, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:33 p.m.

PRESENT: Jan Beatty, Cheryl Cook, Ed LaMontagne, Libby Easton May, Mike Jennings, Diana Yeisley, Katie Robbins

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was recited.

PUBLIC AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: None received.

ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: Regular Meeting on 10/5/2023

Ms. Yeisley moved to accept the minutes, Ms. Cook seconded. All voted in favor.

OLD BUSINESS

Focus Groups:

Ms. Yeisley discussed her conversation with Laura Haynes, Professor at UCONN Health, Center for Aging and Ellis Dillon, Assistant Professor, UCONN Heath Center for Aging. Both expressed interest in what we are doing with regard to the Age Friendly Community Program. Both offered suggestions as to how we should proceed with establishing and running focus groups.

 Senior Voices (Voices of Older Adults):

Discussion on When and Where:

When: January and February 2024

Where: Suggestions included, Powder Forest, churches, golf courses, art shows, coffee shops

Need to survey folks under sixty years of age.

Stakeholders/Community Partners:

Committee members reviewed the status of meeting with stakeholders. These meetings will continue through the month of November.

AARP Webinar Schedule Reminder:

Ms. Beatty reminded members of an AARP Webinar on November 14th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. regarding Pedestrian safety & Walk audits. The web site is, https://events.aarp.org/e8nMRL.

NEW BUSINESS

Wellness Fair Questionnaire Results:

Ms. Robbins shared the compiled results of the surveys that were completed at the Wellness Fair on October 23rd. 11 individuals completed the survey.

Adoption of Subcommittee Meeting Schedule for 2024:

The meeting schedule for 2024 was distributed and reviewed. It was suggested that a July meeting be added to the schedule. Ms. Yeisley moved to accept the revised schedule. Ms. Robbins seconded. All voted in favor.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, Ms. Beatty adjourned the meeting at 3: 30 pm.
