Regular Meeting - Thursday, January 4, 2024 – 2:30 P.M.

Eno Memorial Hall – Old Court Room IN PERSON

MINUTES Subject to Approval

Jan Beatty, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.

PRESENT: Jan Beatty, Ed LaMontagne, Libby Easton May, Mike Jennings, Katie Robbins

EXCUSED: Cheryl Cook

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was recited.

PUBLIC AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: None received.

ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: Regular Meeting on 12/7/2023

Ms. Robbins moved to accept the minutes. Mr. Jennings seconded. All voted in favor.

OLD BUSINESS

Stakeholders/Community Partners:

To date eight stakeholder meetings have been completed, the results of which follow:

Ms. Beatty – Completed McLean and Simsbury Library

Ms. Cook – Has completed Simsbury Housing Authority and will forward results to Ms. Beatty. Has not been able to make contact with Main Street Partnership.

Ms. Easton-May – Has not been able to make contact with Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department and Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance. Will contact Anthology. Contacted Deb Clifford at UMC. Ms. Clifford suggested a video be made to share with the local Pastor Council.

Mr. LaMontagne –Needs to contact Granby Simsbury Chamber of Commerce.

Collation of Data:

Ms. Beatty will collate the data once all of the summation reports from stakeholders are completed.

Information to Board of Selectmen:

It was agreed that all relevant information be secured before any presentation is made to the Board of Selectmen.

Any information will initially be presented to Ms. Diana Yeisley as she is the Board of Selectmen liaison to the Aging and Disability Commission.

NEW BUSINESS

Scheduling/Running of Focus Groups:

Ms. Beatty will be meeting with Ellis Dillion from the UCONN Center for Aging to discuss processes for establishing focus groups. Ms. Dillon did review the AARP focus group listening session.

Report on December 12, 2023 AARP Webinar:

Ms. Beatty reported on the webinar which was titled, Guaranteed Income Pilot in California. The pilot took place in West Hollywood and included twenty-five low-income residents receiving $1,000.00 a month for 18 months ending January 2024.UPenn is analyzing results.

Ms. Beatty stated that while interesting the webinar had no connection to what this subcommittee is doing.

January: AARP Community Challenge Grant 2024

Tuesday, January 9th, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

February: Effectively Communicating Your Age Friendly Initiatives and Activities

Tuesday, February 13th, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

March: Creative Ways that Communities are Engaging Volunteers

Tuesday, March 12th, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Diana Yeisley resigned from the Age Friendly Subcommittee due to her responsibilities as a newly elected Board of Selectperson.

Ms. Robbins will develop a cover sheet and attach the Age Friendly questionnaire which will be placed with the Book to Your Door program sponsored by the Simsbury Public Library.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, Ms. Beatty adjourned the meeting at 3: 30 pm.
