NEW DEADLINES in 2024

Voter Registration Deadlines

 

PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEADLINES: Please read carefully. There are different deadlines for Election Day and Early Voting, and for in-person vs. mail in registrations.

The mail-in and online deadline to register as a new voter for the Primary is March 15, 2024.

The in-person registration deadline to vote in the Primary is noon on April 1.

Early In-Person Voting will be held at Simsbury Town Hall  March 26-28 and March 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

If you are Unaffiliated and wish to enroll in a party to participate in the Primary you must do so in person at town hall by noon on April 1 to vote in person at your regular polling location.

If you are already registered as an Unaffiliated voter and wish to enroll in a party to vote during the Early Voting period, you must appear in person before noon the day before you wish to vote. (Ex: to vote on March 26, you must complete your party enrollment in person at town hall by noon on March 25). There is no same day voter registration/enrollment for Primaries.

 

Registration Cut-off:

Public Act No. 23-5, An Act Implementing Early Voting, changes the voter registration deadline to eighteen days before and election or primary.

Same Day Registration and voting will be available in 2024 for ELECTION ONLY. No Same Day Registration for Primaries or Referenda.

Primary: Mail in application must be postmarked by the 18th day before a primary (OR received by your Registrar of Voters or a voter registration agency by the 18th day before a primary). You may apply in person to your town clerk or registrar until 12:00 noon on the last business day before a primary.

Election: Your application must be postmarked or received by a voter registration agency by the 18th day before an election (OR you may register in person with your Registrar of Voters by the 18th day before an election).

Privileges attach immediately upon approval of the application by the registrar, unless the application is delivered in person to the registrar after the 18th day before an election in-person voter registration deadline or mailed or postmarked to the registrar or a voter registration agency after the 18-day mail-in registration deadline before an election, or the application is made to a voter registration agency, made other than in person to the registrar, or postmarked, after the 18th day before a primary, or

made in person to the registrar after 12 noon of the last business day before a primary.

THREE MONTHS BEFORE PRIMARY.

Last day that enrolled elector can transfer from one party to another or, if unaffiliated electors are permitted to vote in a party primary, to erase from a party, and be eligible to vote in municipal primary of new party.

 Absentee Voting

When Applications May Be Made:

Beginning on the 31st day before an election

Beginning on the 21st day before a primary

Absentee Ballots Must Be Returned:

  • By mail or official drop box so that it is received by the municipal clerk not later than the close of the polls on the day of such election; or
  • Returned by the elector in person to said clerk by the day before an election or primary;
  • A presidential ballot or overseas ballot must be mailed or otherwise returned by the elector or applicant so that it is received by the town clerk not later than the close of the polls on election day. (Sec. 9-l40b)
